Alex is one of the most popular guys at school and for good reason: He's a genuinely friendly and fun guy to be around! Alex is hardworking, easy-going, athletic, and has a great sense of humor! But he also has a serious and virtuous side.Despite being a senior, he’s in the same junior-level English class as Val. Alex has a very big family who he cares for deeply, and he is a devout Catholic.
He gets along surprisingly well with Liam, and considers him one of his closest friends. The two of them are practically inseparable.
Alex is the co-leader of the Monarch Generation[1] and the best friend of Liam Farrow. He is a member of the basketball team and is extremely popular and well liked due to his good looks and open-minded and friendly attitude. Alex is hardworking, easy-going, athletic, and has a great sense of humor! But he also has a serious and virtuous side. Despite being a senior, he’s in the same junior-level English class as Valerie[2] and the two now often work together on their assignments. Alex is from a poor family and the oldest of five siblings[3][4], so because of it he often helps out in order to make things easier on his mother.
Alex becomes the Crystal Warrior, Garnet Heart, after being scouted by Amber in order to protect his family from being attacked by the Nightmare Agency.[5] He represents passion and devotion and has power over fire.
Alex is friendly and hardworking He tries to be kind toward others and help out in any way he can. He has a very serious and virtuous side to him, and feels it's his obligation to protect people weaker than him. Because of his relationship with his family with him taking on a pseudo parental role, and because he is so much larger and stronger to begin with, he is the type who views women and children as being weaker and needing protection.
Alex is extremely perceptive and he can tell when other people are upset with him, want something, or are hiding something for example. Alex tries to be sensitive toward others and will avoid saying things that might come across as harsh or hurtful. When nervous or anxious, Alex has a hard time expressing himself at all and will struggle to say what's on his mind.[6] He is also quite superstitious and is afraid of ghosts and the occult.[7]
He's kind and sociable, But is also the type to hide his true feelings from others and keeps people at arms length. Alex can also be surprisingly pessimistic, despite wanting to see the best in others, and tends to be quite guarded. He believes everyone is capable of striving for goodness but he isn't naive enough to think everyone will. He is also a very jealous person and is easily angered by seeing other characters flirt with Val.[4][8] Alex is one of the most sensitive members of the team. He hates people who target those who are weaker than them.[9] He's disgusted by people who manipulate and toy with the feelings of others.[10] He hates engaging in physical combat but he will fight if he feels it's necessary.[11][4][8]
While he can be very serious and sensitive, he is still very playful and has a great sense of humor. He loves a good trick, he's very energetic and loves to keep himself active.
Aside from sports, Alex is adept at domestic skills like cooking[4], cleaning, sewing, he knows how to do household repairs and some car maintenance skills. He's fluent in both English and Spanish, speaking both at home from a young age.[3] He has strong gut instincts and is very perceptive.
Outside of battle he's able to create fire from his hands and has a high tolerance to heat, not being able to be easily burned.[4]
Alex has a tall, broad build with a visibly muscular physique. He is one of the tallest characters in the cast at an impressive 6'5" and still growing. He is more thin and lean compared to Liam, and his muscles are more visible. His skin tone is a warm medium tan color, and he has bright blue, almond-shaped eyes. Valerie describes his eyes as having a very calming and soothing quality to them.
He has thick, black, shaggy hair that fluffs outward, and a palm-shaped antenna at the top of his head. He has thick dark eyebrows and choppy sideburns.
Alex dresses in comfy, casual, mostly athletic fashion. He prefers warm colors, blacks, and dark blues. His clothing tends to be fitted and emphasizes his chest and arms. His school uniform is very casual and comfortable, forgoing the blazer and tie entirely. He wears his letterman jacket in the winter time. Most of his clothing is thrifted and will be in less than pristine condition. He may wear more vintage pieces because of this as well.
He loves body mods and has 11 facial piercings, with several of them being DIY.[12] He always wears a cross necklace as well, and he often paints his nails.
Alex has 11 facial piercings that he has collected over time. When he transforms, his piercings transform to match his current look. As Garnet Heart, the gold hoop on his left side is replaced with the red spade earring.
Alex's base Crystal Warrior form. As Garnet, he has long bright red hair and a dark red headband. He has a small red ribbon tie where his Heart Jewel rests. His uniform consists of a white sleeveless top and red vest with a flame shaped tail. He has winged sleeves, which in his base form, do not wrap around to the shoulder blades. He wears dark red pants, red fingerless gloves, and red flat heeled boots that stop right before the knees. When he is using his magic, his hair glows and turns into flames.
Abilities
Dragon Fury:Temporary trance-like state of heightened adrenaline. He is capable of fighting without restraint, but it's extremely dangerous and his resistance to combat makes it psychologically devastating for him.[13]
Garnet Blaze: Alex snaps his fingers and his hand is engulfed in flame which he can launch at the enemy. [6]
Mystic Garnet Inferno: Purification spell; Alex flings his weapons at the enemy and then leaps into the air. Before the Nightmare has a chance to react, the blades whirl around striking from behind and both the monster and the field are engulfed in flames. [14]

Form change with Valerie and Zacharie. His design is based on masculine Caribbean festival attire. He has his phoenix tattoo on his hip and unlike his base form, his hair is in flame state by default.
As Tropical Garnet his element is Fire. The three are meant to represent different times of day as well, with Zacharie representing sunrise, Valerie representing sunset, and Alex representing Twilight.
What started as a mission to help a lonely looking classmate feel welcome at school has grown into the closest friendship Alex has ever had since grade school. Liam is one of the few people he views on more equal terms, although he does still take on a brotherly role to him. Alex admires how earnest and straightforward Liam is and he's one of the few people willing to listen to him and discuss his less mainstream interests like history and classic literature. Alex does worry about Liam's mental well-being though and encourages him to venture out of his comfort-zone. Although Liam often complains, Alex would never make him do something he thinks would harm him.
Alex has a pretty positive opinion on Ethan. Ethan is friendly toward him and is very level-headed, so he sees him as a reliable friend. Since Alex has a great interest in history and theology, he likes hearing Ethan talk about his culture and beliefs. The two of them end up playing basketball often after episode 12.
Alex's opinion of Sophie is initially neutral but leaning toward positive. He sympathizes with her frustration with Liam and tries to convince his friend to take his work more seriously for her sake. He also views her as a smart and reliable team-mate, but he quickly realizes Sophie can be really intense and frightening in her curiosity. In his own route he begins to see her as a threat and she's one of the only team members that he's assigned a threat that he opts to flee from rather than fight. He understands that she's just curious but he feels she goes too far with it.
Alex finds her a little bit frustrating at times but he kind of goes easier on her than he normally would with other characters who behaved the same way. Although he finds her stuck up, he still sees Clover's naivete and sheltered upbringing as innocent, especially compared to his view of Liam.
At first, she's simply a cute girl that he enjoys the company of, but she's also someone he's just drawn toward. By all accounts it would make sense for him to view her as a little sibling he needs to protect since she's smaller and younger than him, but he trusts her and sees her as one of the only people he can really rely on. Val is a source of comfort for him and he sees her as one of his closest friends. He looks up to her for her leadership skills and her ability to get along well with others.

Alex's Crystal Warrior form was initially called "Garnet Passion". His Garnet Passion incarnation was a year younger than Liam.[20]
Alex was initially intended to be competitive, hot-tempered, and fiery in contrast with Liam's cool headed personality. He was changed to be more humble, sensitive, and soft-hearted instead.[20]
Alex at one point was intended to start off the story at 18, but was aged down a year[21].
