Luminae

Luminae (/ˈluːmɪˌni:/ LOO-mi-nee) (Singular: /ˈluːmɪˌnə/ LOO-mi-nə) are winged beings of light with incredibly high amounts of arcane ability. They're the most magically sensitive being on Glimmer and their powers are based on emotions. The Luminae, with the exception of Rosalia, are said to have all sacrificed themselves to avoid being turned into Nightmares.

Overview

Luminae are rare and intelligent winged beings of light. Luminae are the ones who created the Rose Crystal Mirror, a powerful piece of enchanted technology that is said to be able to create miracles. Luminae have incredibly long life-spans, living thousands of years.

Because of their long lifespans, they're viewed as guardians in Glimmer and have high positions in society. Not all people like the hierarchy though, and a lot of fairies are vocally against the Luminae monarchist society since the Luminae aren't inherently more capable of leading than Fae. Some even think that their long life spans make them less ideal rulers, since they can't understand the struggles of a shorter living creature. Even so, the royal family of Chalcedonia are all Luminae.

Reproduction

Luminae typically only reproduce once per millennia, and because of their sparse population, they don't need a partner to do so. Despite being a biologically asexual race, they're fully capable of having emotional relationships with others. Just like fae and humans, their sexual and romantic attraction varies from person to person.

Unlike fairies, luminae are genetically incompatible with other intelligent beings on Glimmer. The way their bodies function are just too different from fae and humans to be capable of reproducing with them. One such difference is that Luminae have translucent gold blood and lighter bones, their bodies don't need iron or calcium to survive.

Abilities

Their magic is primarily emotion based and they can sense the feelings of others, as well as heal corrupted and clouded over Heart Jewels.
